Okey
I'm descended from Clement Okey & Elizabeth Rust who married in March Cambridgeshire in 1811. Clement was, I believe, born in Haddenham in 1792 and was the son of Clement, a farmer, and Ann Okey.
If anyone knows anything of this branch of the Okey family, such as where they lived and farmed, I'd love to hear from you!!
My email is:
bookendart@gmail.com
thanks so much!

The War memorial
My Uncle, Harry Smith was killed in WW1 and his name appears on the War Memorial on the Green. His father, my Grandfather, was a Regimental Sergeant Major in the Suffolk Regiment, and his family lived in 'The Manse' on the green. I have a photo taken outside the house in the twenties. The Smith family, of which there was 9 children, were all born in Ely, apart from Harry, who was killed in action, who was born in India, and his sister May who was born in Egypt.I was evacuated to Haddenham during the war from the East End of London and was billeted with the Peter's family at Liverpool House.

Messages
I have just published a message from someone who left a message earlier. Again there is no name and no way that anyone interested can contact the author. I'm afraid we don't have a crystal ball so unless you leave a name and contact details you will be waiting a long time for an answer.

FURTHER TOO
I left an entry last year and maybe was a bit vague. I lived in Haddenham as a child up to the age of 12. I was wondering if anyone knew what happened to my old school friends, namely, Frazer newell, Ken Allsop, Tony Burgess, and Boyd Setchell. I remember having great fun as a kid, swimming in Home River and cycling on the fens.

Wingfield House, High Street, Haddenham
I asked Lorna Delanoy if she knew anything about Wingfield House and, guess what, she did. Here is her reply -
"Yes, it was only given that name in the late 20cent ....it belonged to Healey Wilson, the corn merchants in the forties/seventies (offices were in a building now occupied by the two semis.).....Wilson eventually went up to the Manor house to live with his in-laws, the Porters, and one of his staff lived there.....Holly house, behind WF, was in fact the kitchen/servants rooms for the main house....the garden stretched back into what is now Bell Gardens. In 19c it all belonged to the Camps, a land-owning family whose last member is Clare who lived at Ivy House Wiburton....now in nursing home at Cottenham".
Thanks Lorna.

Dear Richard
If you would like to email again I can help you with your family tree. I think you will find that the reference relates to Grunty Fen.
I look forward to hearing from you.

Whilst researching my family tree I found an address for my Great Great Grandfather in the 1871 census as 'Gremty Pen, Haddenham'. Do any of the old timers know what this referes too?
Thanks in advance for any info.
Regards
Dick Finch

Messages
I have just added another message to the guestbook where a lady has asked for people who remember her to get in contact and yet again no contact details were left.
Please - if you want people to respond to your message you must leave some details otherwise how can they?
Thanks - Julie Parr
